American Legion Extends Eligilibility
Up until recently only veterans who served in the military during war time were allowed to join the American Legion. Congress has recently changed those dates and any veteran who served honorably in the military after December 7th 1941 may join the American Legion.
The change in eligibility comes on the 100th Anniversary of the Legion. 2020 will mark the 100th anniversary of the local Charles F. Duford Post #47. To celebrate their 100 years, the post is offering a free one year membership to all who apply. According to Post Commander Steve Bradford, the Post is hoping to sign up enough new members to have 100 members in 2020. The Post presently consists of 64 members, or about 11% of the veterans in town.
The Post will hold a membership drive at Celebrate Holliston as well as the Annual Veterans Day Dinner on November 11th at Town Hall.
If you wish to join the post, it's simple. Just send a copy of your DD 214 along with your return address to: Charles F. Duford Post 47, American Legion, P.O. Box 6537, Holliston MA 01746.
It's free, it's simple, do it now.
