Holliston Through Time ...
The Holliston Historical Society has embarked on a new and exciting project to chronicle the history of Holliston in pictures. We need the help of many to make this project successful. The project will be a new collection of photographs that show Holliston "through the years." The collection, to be titled Holliston Through Time will be available next year.
The Historical Society in past years has published two collections - Images of Holliston, Volumes I and II. The new collection will pair up vintage and contemporary photos. And here's where we need your help. We want to feature as many newly discovered vintage photos as possible and so we humbly requesting residents in Holliston to search their own photo archives and old photo albums for images of Holliston and/or its residents. We would like to copy photos to add to the Society's collection and to add new and unique views of Holliston for the new edition. We will then take contemporary photos to pair with them, and add new views for the Holliston Through Time project. Photos do not have to be VERY old - they can be from 40, 50, 60 or more years ago. Our intention is to show changes, subtle or significant, to our local landscape.
For example, the Society has no vintage photos of the balancing rock even though we know it has been here since the last Ice Age. Even George Washington stopped by for a look and a push. But we hold out hope that someone has a snapshot of it taken a long time ago.
Just recently, the Society received a wonderful donation of old photo albums from the Phipps family. In the album was a photo of a girl sitting upon Jasper's Rock. We had seen no old photos of that landmark before. Maybe the same good fortune will come about as a result of this effort to document other great Holliston landmarks.
If you have an old photo album, take a look, the pictures may seem of small consequence but they may be a goldmine of local history. If you have something interesting, let us know, we'd love to see your photos. Wouldn't you like to see one of your photos in Holliston Through Time?
